An Experimental Assessment of Piled Raft Foundation Under Axial and Eccentric Loading in the Scenario of Granular Soil Conditions

Experimental tests were conducted under axial and eccentric loading conditions in granular soils, ranging from loose to dense sand. The focus was on analysing load-settlement behavior and tilt performance to identify the strengths of each configuration. Previous research has emphasized the effectiveness of battered piles in handling eccentric loads, supporting the inclusion of BPR in this study. The results revealed that BPR performed best under eccentric loading, with a load-bearing capacity 14.36% higher than VPR and 90.48% greater than DPR, making it ideal for high eccentric loads. VPR excelled in axial loading, achieving 59.77% and 50.34% higher capacities in dense and loose sands, respectively. GPR improved load distribution, increasing capacity by 54.83% over DPR, while CPR was the most effective in tilt reduction, with a tilt reduction factor of 0.25 compared to DPR’s 0.55, limiting tilt to 0.3 degrees. This study highlights that BPR is optimal for eccentric loads, VPR for axial loads, and GPR and CPR improve load distribution and tilt control, addressing geotechnical challenges in granular soils.
